GunHil presented PLOEY – You Never Fly Alone at Cartoon Movies, the animated feature film forum in Lyon, France. At the presentation in Lyon, a Co-Production agreement with Trixter of Germany was announced along with a World Sales Agreement with ARRI Worldsales, marking a major milestone towards completion of financing of this great story of the little bird that hasn’t learned to fly when his family migrates in the fall.
Moritz Hemminger, Theatrical Sales Manager of ARRI Worldsales expressed his satisfaction of the contract and sited his thoughts on the script: “What a fantastic story! It has everything you’re looking for in a family feature animation. The outsider, who becomes a hero with the help of his friends, very touching and adventurous story!”

Cake and Gunhil join forces for development and distribution of Space Stallions
Space Stallions, the instant 80s parody hit presented by GunHil at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse in September has landed an international development and distribution deal with the signing of an agreement between CAKE in London and GunHil Ltd. of Reykjavik, Iceland.
“As darkness is covering the multiverse, far away in the galaxy of the wild stallion, the divine Mother mustang calls upon Sun-Ray for help as the spark of life is in great danger. An elite force is formed by the Global Council. They are the Space Stallions, sent on a mission to save the galaxy from the über-evil demon of darkness, Destructo.”
The appearance of Space Stallions at Cartoon Forum is probably best described by the words of Sandra Freisinger-Heinl of Branded Entertainment Online: “In addition, the ‘boys’ of the Icelandic production company GunHil received outstanding applause. They won over the audience with Space Stallions, an adult parody of 80s science-fiction cartoons and thus almost placing the audience in turmoil.”
Space Stallions is targeted for 18-48 year-olds.
Space Stallions has been a phenomenal hit on YouTube since it was released earlier in the year already with close to 650,000 views. The concepts were originally created as a short film graduation project from the Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark and have on top of its on-line success, enjoyed festival screenings and accolades at numerous animation festivals around the world, including Annecy.
CAKE and GunHil have now joined forces to expand the development of the property to better suit the needs of the international market and furthermore, CAKE will handle worldwide distribution of the upcoming TV series. The originating authors of the property, Thorvaldur Gunnarsson and Agust Freyr Kristinsson will join the process of bringing this exciting satire to the world.
Tom van Waveren, CEO & Creative Director, along with CCO & Managing Director Edward Galton and Grainne McNamara, VP Development and Sales, are heading the project on behalf of CAKE.
GunHil’s first animated family feature film ‘Ploe – You Never Fly Alone’ will be presented as project in development at Cartoon Movies which takes place in Lyon from March 6-8. GunHil is seeking pre-sales and co-producers at the forum for the heart-warming adventure film which tells of a young plover chick who hatches the very last of 4 brothers. When fall comes and his family migrates to warmer climate, Ploe is left behind to fight harsh winter, cruel enemies and vicious elements.
The story and script is written by Fridrik Erlingsson and Gunnar Karlsson will co-direct and is the visual creator of the film. The film is produced by Hilmar Sigurdsson and Haukur Sigurjónsson and is expected to be in cinemas at year end 2015.
Haukur Sigurjónsson, our Producer who is leading our Swedish operations and Trans-media development, will be attending Cartoon Connection Canada that will gather about 140 European and Canadian animation professionals from 10 to 13 December 2012 in the nice capital of Quebec. If you are attending and want to contact Haukur on forehand, please do not hesitate to do so.
GunHil is extremely proud to announce its first animated family feature film in development. The film is based on a story and script by Fridrik Erlingsson, a well-known novelist and script writer (Benjamin Dove, Legends of Vallhalla – Thor). The film is visually created and co-directed by GunHil’s Gunnar Karlsson and produced by Hilmar Sigurdsson and Haukur Sigurjonsson.
Ploe is born the latest of 4 plover chicks and is off on the wrong wing from the very start. When autumn comes and his family migrates to warmer climates, the young chick has not yet learned to fly. He faces the harsh winter, cruel enemies and vicious elements which he has to battle with his new friends.
The film has received script funding support from the Icelandic Film Centre and is expected to be out in 2015. You can read more on the film here on the site.
It was a breath taking moment at the trailer show after lunch on Thursday at Cartoon Forum in Toulouse. People cheered, whistled and applauded after the screening of the Space Stallions trailer and it was obvious that this entertainment was highly appreciated. One veteran of Cartoon Forum described the moment as “unprecedented”.
This was only the beginning of what turned out to be a great day for GunHil and the Space Stallions. Over 200 people showed up for the presentation and the room was jammed packed. There where continues cheers and laughter throughout the presentation and when the trailer appeared in full force at the end of the pitch, it was obvious that something extraordinary had taken place. Space Stallions was one of the most attended presentation of the 69 projects pitched there.
The future looks bright and ahead is serious talk with major internationals and others on how to bring the Space Stallions series from the multi-world into this world. Exciting times ahead in our 5 months old company – which happens to be “still under the same management” so we quote a good Danish friend of ours.

The film ‘Legends of Valhalla – Thor’ which was co-directed and visually created by Gunnar Karlsson, and produced by Hilmar Sigurdsson and Arnar Thorisson while back with Caoz, will have its premiere in Denmark on April 24 and Norway on May 11. The trailers in local languages are available here:
Our previous endeavour ‘Legends of Valhalla – Thor’, created while back with Caoz, has been a true box-office hit in S-Korea, a country that saw local film having around 70% market share in 2011. The film was 6 weeks straight on the top-10 box-office list, starting at 4 for the first two weeks and then hovering between eight and 10th place. The film generated close to 5 M $ in box office with over 755.000 admissions in S-Korea only. This is by all means a great success which is not least by clever marketing strategy by Smile Int. who distributed the film in S-Korea. Gunnar Karlsson co-directed and visually created the film, which is produced by Hilmar Sigurdsson & Arnar Thorisson.
